22497 “Music keeps my heart beating”. Music, like most art forms is a vehicle for self- expression. For as long as I can remember, music has been a part of my life. In fact, I have been attending concerts with my family since I was five years old. Live music helps me escape the problems and obstacles of this world and allows me to find peace. When I am at a concert, I forget about my day to day problems and am able to feel the power and emotions of the music I am listening to. When I am either listening to music, I escape into my new world. The world that I escape to is a place were no problems arise and I am in the right state of mind. For example, when I attend the Pierce The Veil concert I start to sing their songs and dance in order to truly express myself. Pierce The Veil is a post alternative rock band, so the lyrics that they portray in their songs really relate to me. Not only does the music relate to me, but the feeling of the music pierces my ears and bumps through my chest. This is why I escape into another world with the rest of the music fans. Fans of this genre relate to the lyrics and many have similar situations. Going to concerts is a way to help each other conquer our similar situations that we are facing. Even though we aren’t communicating to each other during the concert the music brings all of us together. I believe that music affects each individual in different ways. To some individuals, music can be sound or music may not have any significant meaning. For other individuals music is what shapes their individuality and is a relief to life's obstacles, I am the individual that views music that is more than just sound. I grew up with two divorced parents when I was only three years old. I grew up around my mom most of the time, while I saw my father on the weekends. When many individuals experience a divorce it puts a big impact on their life no matter what the age is. The reason why music is so important to me, is because when I was a little girl my father was my best friend. When I was about three years young my parents had divorced and my mother had taken custody of me. Between the ages of four and ten years old, I barely saw my dad. When I was about six years old, my mom had introduced me to music and took me to concerts as an escape from my home life. Little did I realize that my dad was an alcoholic. He was in and out of rehab and he was in jail for a while. When I turned 10 years old I saw my dad a lot more including the weekends. At that point I had my best friend back and that made me the happiest little girl. There has been many impacts in my life, however music and my father have been the greatest. I began to realize that music is not just sound. Music is a relief to life's obstacles and it characterizes my personality. When music is playing it helps me forget about my life's obstacles and keeps me moving forward into my future.
